Sacred chant is more than music -- it is sung prayer. The power of sacred chant to calm, to soothe, and to bring the listener into the presence of the divine is celebrated in spiritual traditions around the world. Here, two sacred traditions are merged. Favorite Gregorian chants from the West and beloved Sanskrit chants from the East are woven together with healing harmonies to assist in the deepening of relaxation, meditation, and restful prayer.

Jim Oliver (keyboards) is known widely for his work with the healing qualities of music and for his therapeutic compositions, including Harmonic Resonance. He has received an Emmy Award for his soundtrack to Life in the Stress Lane and served as composer-in-residence at Robert Redford's Sundance Institute.

Cynthia Snodgrass (vocals), a devoted practitioner of sacred sound and Sanskrit, is a musicologist by training and a student of religious ritual, Sanskrit, and sacred chant. She is founder of the Sacred Sound Institute.

Waters from the Son/Waters from the Moon: An Altar of Sound

This Altar of Sound™ is dedicated to the healing powers of water, light, and sound, blending Gregorian chants of the west and Sanskrit chants of the east with the soothing sounds of the Celtic harp. From the calming waves of a lullaby, to sung prayer, to repeated sounds that free the mind to cross over (as if by boat) the "waters of the world," music and mantra serve as vehicles for transformation and transcendence. Here are offered the peace and union of three ancient and sacred sound traditions. You are invited to let the waters wash through you, feel the light radiating within you, and allow the sounds to carry you.

Vyaas Houston (vocals) is the founder of the American Sanskrit Institute. A nationally-recognized teacher of Sanskrit, he is author of Sanskrit by Cassette and has recorded and translated many Sanskrit classics.

Mark Kelso (keyboards), a former Narada recording artist, is founder of Muddy Angel Music, and has produced nearly 20 solo and collaborative albums, including music soundtracks for the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health.
